Researchers will make the most out of the EQIPD quality system if they are knowledgeable about its contents and underlying rationale.
We have developed the EQIPD E-learning course “The principles of rigour and robustness in animal experiments” to provide training to researchers world-wide.
The EQIPD E-learning course can be accessed here:
It consists of the modules:
- Scientific integrity
- Systematic review and meta-analysis
- Experimental design
- Data handling
- Data analysis and statistics
- Transparent reporting
- Ethics and animal welfare
- Academia – industry collaborations
- The EQIPD quality system
In each module, existing and newly generated training materials are collated, resulting in a combination of interactive E-learning elements, webinars, web lectures and knowledge clips. Each module consists of Core materials, suitable for participants with little prior knowledge to achieve the learning goals, and Bonus materials providing additional examples or more advanced levels of training. Additional resources such as relevant publications are also provided. Learning outcomes are described for each module, and learning goals are outlined for each training material, which participants can use to test their knowledge.
In total, 71 training materials are included in the course, 10% of which were created de novo by the EQIPD consortium members to fill gaps in the existing resources. The duration of the individual materials is variable, from ~5 minutes to 1.5 hours, but a balanced combination is offered in each module. Each module contains 1 to 14 materials (median 5 materials) and should take participants between 1 and 6 hours to complete. All materials are online, open access, in English and suitable for researchers from both academia and industry.
